What Kind Of Review Can You Expect?

If I could describe what kind of reader I am, I would hands down say I was an emotional one. When I read I want to fully experience the book, from the emotions coursing through the characters to reacting to the twist and turns of the storyline. I'm looking for those books that fire up my imagination and leave me breathless when it's over. It's for this reason why the reviews I write aren't so much what I think and are more on how I feel. My hopes in sharing my review in this way is that something will spark an interest and have you wanting to have the same experiences. This isn't to say I don't have issues with grammar, word choices etc. Trust me I do and most times all it takes is waiting for the story to grab hold for it not to matter. When I do include things about what I thought about the book (for example I've included comments about word choices and being too descriptive), I only do so because it directly affected how I felt. I hope this helps. Enjoy!

The Romance Diva: Unearthly, by Cynthia Hand

Official Blurb:
In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

What I thought:
I've wanted to read this book for a while.  I find myself rushing out to buy books hot off the presses and it usually turns out to be wishful thinking on my part.  My hectic schedule always seems to get in the way of my guilty pleasures.  Anyway, I finally set down to read this and I have to say it almost killed me.  Because of my schedule, I read when I should be sleeping, and when a book is good I get caught up in it and it's hard for me to put it down.

Yep.  That's what happened with this book.  Not being one to give up, I propped my eyelids open with some toothpicks and kept on reading!! ;)

I really loved this story.  It dove right into the whole thing, not messing around with a bunch of unnecessary stuff.  I enjoyed getting to the know the characters and I realized right away that I was going to have a "conflict of interest" with the love interests in this book...mainly being that I felt some good chemistry from both of the awesome guys.  There was clearly one I chose over the other.  But I will let you read it to figure it out.

All of the aspects of this story moved along easily.  I never felt that moment where I thought....boring...I will just skim this part.  Nope!  Didn't happen.  The book kept me enraptured the whole time.

The character development went well also, and I have to say if I had a hot guy like _____ taking me out into the woods all the time, I'm afraid that I would have never left the forest and instead just kept on making out like a fiend.  Because really, we all know there is NOTHING like hours upon hours of hot kissing!  Am I right?  I'm a pure advocate of the idea that there's nothing a little tongue can't cure!!   I mean really...there was a reason I was called "Hot Lips" in high school!  So yeah, I would have been out in nature slobbering up with Mr. Hottie....I'm sure that's why I resonated so well with the character! HA!

I was near death from lack of sleep as I came closer to the end of the book, but for the life of me I couldn't put it down and come back to it.  I had to know what happened.  The ending came in an exciting rush and I have to say my only complaint about the book was right here.  The ending, while revealing somethings I already suspected, never wrapped anything up.  No questions were answered and the reader was left with about as much knowledge as they had to begin with.  This wasn't a distraction to the story at all, but rather just a disheartening moment since we know the story will continued on.  Ending it this way left things kind of in a "now what?" situation.

Don't let me telling you this make you think it ruined the story for me.  It didn't!  I loved it, I was excited about it, and started telling people to read it right away.

So now I will tell you.  This was a great young adult story.   The setting, story, characters and premise were all very well done.  I liked it and I can't wait to read the next one!

My Rating:
